About Stoer View

Luxurious and cosy

Stoer View is a luxurious holiday cottage in Scourie, north west Scotland, with spectacular views over Badcall Bay and located on the North Coast 500 route. The house accommodates up to eight guests in four bedrooms, and offers a contemporary open plan living space with an extremely well-equipped kitchen for sociable cooking and eating.

A conservatory and large outside deck look over breathtaking views of the bay. If you are seeking a complete break from the pressures of modern life in a wild and striking landscape, look no further. Whether you come as a family or a group of friends, you can be sure of a memorable stay.

Our story…

We have been on an incredible journey over  the past four years since becoming the owners of Stoer View. There was the serendipity of finding it (Mark happened on it while on a road trip with an old friend and was hooked from the moment he first saw that unforgettable view), the fun of making plans to renovate it, working with some wonderful craftspeople to transform it and now sharing the wonderful setting of Badcall Bay with our guests.

We knew from the first time we looked at the house that this is a special place. The pull of the view of the many islands in Badcall Bay and the surrounding mountain landscape eventually put us on a course that neither of us expected to be taking.

Stoer View had originally been a much loved family home (the old ‘tree house’ still stands just over the fence). We wanted to make sure that it stayed family friendly but that we took full advantage of the unbelievable views. So we turned the house around… The front door became the back door opening out onto a patio with the full view of the bay. The garage became the main entrance and we then surrounded the house with plenty of decking, allowing everyone to take in their surroundings at a leisurely pace – and often accompanied by a brisk westerly breeze!

When you come to stay, we hope you will find a modern living space designed entirely for the pleasure of becoming part of the surrounding landscape, the wildlife and, of course, the changing weather.

But there are creature comforts too. We have set up the house to allow our visitors to make the most of their time on the north west coast of Scotland, whether reading books, watching Netflix, listening to some music or cooking with friends and family.

However, we hope it doesn’t make you so comfortable that you won’t enjoy everything this part of Sutherland has to offer. There is so much to explore, from the local fishing village of Scourie to the amazing golden sands of Oldshoremore beach and the majestic cliffs at Durness. And it is a hill walker’s paradise with the peaks of the Assynt close by.

Stoer View is a wonderful place to spend time, truly a place that is good for the soul. As Mark said to me on one of our early visits: “I feel so lucky to be here – this whole area really does feel like the last great British wilderness.” And now it can be yours to enjoy as well.
