We are located 90 miles north west of Inverness, which takes about two hours to drive. It is just about possible to get here on public transport but it is not recommended! A car is really essential and guests typically either drive here or rent a car to complete their journey. The house is two miles south of the village of Scourie and nine miles north of Kylesku, just off the A984.
By air
Inverness is our closest airport. There are daily flights from London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast, Highlands and Islands (Sumburgh on Shetland), Dublin and Amsterdam. There is a new Mariott Courtyard Hotel at Inverness airport if you have an early departure or a late arrival.
By train
The Caledonian Sleeper runs overnight trains from London Euston to Inverness. You can arrange for a rental car pick up from the Inverness railway station.
The nearest railway station is at Lairg but there are limited transport options from there (see Durness Bus below).
By bus
The Durness Bus is a private local service that covers the Northern Highlands. There are services to Scourie from Inverness and Lairg that stop about two miles from Stoer View. They can also do private hire.
Shopping for groceries
There are no large supermarkets in the area so most guests shop in Inverness where you will find Tesco, M&S and Morrison’s. Our nearest supermarket is Tesco in Ullapool which is great for a top-up shop.
We have two local stores in Scourie. Parkers is open 6am to 7pm and has a Post Office open in the mornings. There is a good selection of the basics and local meat and fish; they usually carry some local beers as well. The Spar at the campsite also has a good selection. There are also small supermarkets to the north in Kinlochbervie and in Durness and to the south there is a popular small shop in the village of Drumbeg.
Fuel
Petrol and diesel is available at the Scourie Filling Station. The pumps accept credit cards and are open 24 hours. Other petrol stations are available in Kinlochbervie and Lochinver.
